Tree Fertilising

Arbor Aeration are possibly the UK leaders in this field and have invested in purpose built deep root fertilizing equipment.

Trees and shrubs need a balanced nutrient mix for proper growth and survival, just like we need a balanced mix of vitamins and minerals in our diets.  In a natural setting, trees obtain all the nutrients they require from the rich blanket of humus on the forest floor.  However, in our urban landscaped environment, fertilizer is needed to take the place of this natural fertilizer.

Our urban landscape also imposes additional stresses on trees and shrubs that are not a concern in the forest setting.  Stress caused by compacted soils, air pollution, road salts, poor drainage, and competition with turf grasses can impair the health and ultimately the growth of the tree.  Without realizing it, our stressed trees can become more and more susceptible to infestation by insects and disease, further compounding the restricted growth.  With that in mind, one of the best ways we can help our landscape plants grow healthier and to make them more resistant to pest infestation is to ensure they receive a proper supply of balanced nutrients.

Deep Root Fertilizer Injection

This is the most effective method to fertilize trees.  This process injects a beneficial fungi, fertilizer and water mixture under pressure 8 to 10 inches below the soil surface, right to where the feeder roots are.  The injections are placed in a grid pattern in and around the trees root zone out to the drip line.  There are many advantages to fertilizing in this way.  The high pressure injection forces the water and fertilizer mix throughout the root zone, which not only supplies nutrients to the root system but also reduces soil compaction and encourages additional root zone aeration.  Deep root fertilising can be carried out anytime of the year as long as the air temperature is above 10c, spring through to early winter are considered the best times of year for this work.

In the past there was little we could do to slow the decline of a diseased or dying tree or hedge. Thanks to modern research, advancements in the study of mycology and the availability of purpose made tree fertilizers this is no longer the case.

Our tree fertilising units, are powered by Honda engines, they have a 600L tank and come with 65m of hose, the units are trailer mounted, and towed by 4x4 vehicles, we haven’t had a tree yet that we can’t get access to!

Along with all our other services, Arbor Aeration offers this service nationwide.
